BC/YK Interconnection Options and Cost Analysis, and Development Plan

Date:

Jan 2018 - Feb 2020

Client:

Yukon Development Corporation (YDC)

Midgard was retained by YDC to conduct a variety of engineering and consulting services over a two-year period, focused on evaluating and planning a new interconnection between Yukon and British Columbia. Key activities included:

  1. BC/YK Interconnection Options and Cost Analysis – A technical and financial evaluation of potential transmission options (including AC and HVDC alternatives) to supply power to potential mining developments 300 km northwest of Whitehorse. The work involved reviewing existing BC Hydro assets, Yukon grid characteristics, route options, scaling considerations, line type selection, transfer capacity, risk assessment, and optimization.
  2. Interconnection Development Plan – Building on the options analysis, Midgard developed a detailed plan for interconnection development, covering high-level design, cost and risk summaries, and rationale for preferred options.
