Project Experience

The Wataynikaneyap Transmission Project is a >$1 billion initiative to connect 24 First Nation communities in Northwestern Ontario to the provincial transmission grid. Midgard provided technical and advisory services to both PowerTel Utilities Contractors Limited and the Ontario Financing Authority in support of the project.

Ontario Financing Authority (OFA)

OFA retained Midgard to perform due diligence and financial oversight in support of a loan guarantee for First Nation equity participation. Scope included:

1. Technical and financial due diligence

2. Financial modelling

3. Ongoing review of construction progress reports

4. Setup and management of a loan register to support OFA’s role as loan agent

PowerTel Utilities Contractors Limited

PowerTel engaged Midgard to support project execution through:

1. Preparation of stakeholder materials, including an executive summary, presentation content, project documentation, and responses to information requests

2. Identification of geotechnical, environmental, and weather-related risks

3. Review of EPC contract language with recommendations on risk allocation
